Cormant-CS’s network discovery and network monitoring allows customers to directly interrogate the network and discover newly added components.

Keep up to date records of your network configuration and query SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) enabled switches to determine any changes.

This can assist in initial set-up of Cormant-CS, as well as ensuring that the Cormant-CS database remains up to date and accurate.Cormant-CS’s SNMP provides two main functions:

Discovery of network and peripheral equipment, such as routers, switches, servers and PCs
Interrogation of SNMP-enabled switches to determine changes to connections

These functions work independently, and the schedule for network polling can be set independently, or selectively disabled.

SNMP

In Cormant-CS, the SNMP module facilitates the exchange of information by sending data messages across the switches, PDUs (power), or any other device, to different parts of a network. The agents i.e., SNMP-compliant devices, store data about themselves in MIBs (management information bases) and return this data to the SNMP requesters.

SNMP is available on a number of systems such as:

Network Devices (Routers, Hubs, Switches, Wireless Access Points, etc)
Operating Systems
Consumer Broadband Network Devices (Cable Modems and DSL Modems)
Consumer Electronic Devices (Cameras and Image Scanners)
Networked Office Equipment (Printers, Copiers, and Fax machines)
Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPS)

Cormant-CS can perform SNMP queries to gather information from equipment ports, and for problem determination and troubleshooting.

WMI

Cormant-CS is able to use WMI in the same way as it does SNMP.

Your devices can be queries and results sent to the Alerts tab for resolution or auditing at a later stage. The process is run automatically on the server at pre-determined times which can be modified within the software by the administrator.

Alerts

Cormant-CS alerts will display all the network discovery options which indicate when a Component Attributes is found or a change to a connection is detected.

Alerts can be converted into actions, either to create the equipment and make the change in Cormant-CS, or to assign an alert to an engineer for audit or for correction.

Alerts are updated in real-time on the Cormant-CS screen, and are color-coded for easy identification of what action is requried..
